We’re
runnin’ out of trees, and we’re runnin’ out of space, but we’ll never run out
of good people.
– Great Big Sea
Actually they have it precisely backwards. We’ve
lots of trees, and lots of space. But we are rapidly, catastrophically, running
out of good people.
Isn’t it just typical of our age to worry
publicly over the number of trees, but to take completely for granted the
supply of good people? As though good people simply appear automatically — even
if you contracept your children out of existence, and the ones that you permit
to be born you inoculate against striving after virtue.
Good people are a far more precious resource. And
good people are far less easily substituted by technological solutions.
